SEALED GAS RECOMBINATION BATTERY

SPACELL® "12 + YEARS DESIGN LIFE"

DESCRIPTION

This recombination battery, continuously deployed since 1985, is designed with a suitable quantity of active materials in the plates and special alloys for the grids to ensure that oxygen is only generated at the positive plates and is not released to the atmosphere.

The generated oxygen is diffused through the acid resistant overlapping Borosilicate fiberglass separators to the negative plates where it combines with Hydrogen to form water.

This approach means that these cells can operate in the "Starved Electrolyte" condition without resorting to the normal reservoir of electrolyte as deployed above the plates of flooded type cells.

The carefully balanced negative plates, together with the advanced internal cell design, enable a recombination efficiency of approximately 98%!  In other words, the volume of hydrogen emitted from the battery is approximately 2%!  Thus, the need for specially ventilated room is eliminated.

CHARACTERISTICS

SPACELL® Batteries have the following characteristics:
  • Field proven sealed gas recombination technology;
  • No topping-up during their entire lifetime;
  • Absorbed electrolyte, therefore no risk of acid leak or spattering;
  • Maximum energy/volume ratio in terms of life expectancy;
  • Robust due to use of special alloy plate with several alloying constituents,
    giving high mechanical strength to grids.

FLOAT VOLTAGE

In terms of average operating temperatures, battery charging is normally applied as follows:
0oc (32oF):      2.35 Volts                        25oC (77oF):    2.25 Volts
20oC (68oF):    2.27 Volts                        35oC (95oF):    2.21 Volts

STANDARDS

  • Batteries classified in the so called "recombination" category according to the terminology of the Interpretation from Nr 84-02 dated 17/02/84 related to the norm NFC 15.100 (Test record Nr 293 217 from the Control Laboratory of Electrical Industries)
  • Transport officials report 1996/01 of B.V.T. (National office of Technical Verifications) meeting the requirements of regulations of IMDG (International Maritime code for Dangerous Goods) and OACI (Organization of Civil International Aviation), UN2800, packing note 800.
