Main Features of the MTI's HONDA Alkaline Storage Battery

Superb and Sturdy Electrical Performance Characteristics

The MTI's Honda alkaline storage battery is rarely ever damaged, even with extreme overcharging.  Unlike a lead acid battery it is completely free from the so-called sulphation, the phenomenon known to cause damage to a storage battery, even when full discharge operation is repeated.

Long Life

There are numerous cases in which MTI's Honda batteries used for stationary applications have been operating satisfactorily for 20-30 years while many others used for train controls, railway lighting, diesel locomotive starting service have performed functions for 10 to 20 continuous years.

In cycling service application, the MTI's Honda battery takes 2,000 charge-discharge cycles before its capacity drops to 60-70% of the nominal or initial level.

Service lives of commercial batteries are generally as shown in Table 2.  The table clearly shows that  the MTI's Honda battery has a much longer service life and therefore requires less running cost than others.

Mechanically Strong and Stands Rough Handling

Unlike the lead acid battery, the MTI's Honda alkaline battery is mechanically very strong.  Even when overcharged, the MTI's Honda alkaline battery is free from the shedding of the active material, which causes a deterioration of properties as seen in the lead acid battery.

The cell container is made of either steel sheet or highly impact-resistant plastic and the ruggedly constructed electrode plates combine to make the MTI's Honda battery very strong against shocks and vibrations.

Minimum Maintenance

A storage battery generally requires periodical inspections and topping-up of the electrolyte for maintenance.  In the case of the lead acid battery, it is necessary to watch the charged state constantly by frequent inspection of the gravity of electrolyte.  For the MTI's Honda alkaline battery, topping-up service at long intervals is the only maintenance required.

Stable Performance with High Available Capacity

With the MTI's Honda alkaline battery, the voltage drop is kept to a minimum even at a very high-rate of discharge current, thereby ensuring the higher ratio of available capacity to rated capacity.

Excellent Low Temperature Characteristics

The MTIs Honda alkaline battery retains its excellent performance even at very low operating temperatures. -20Cfor example the keeps a useful capacity amounting to 90% (most efficient HDV type) or 75% (medium-rate of nominal whereas it is 30% lower with lead acid battery.

Lowest Self-Discharge

Of all commercial storage batteries, the MTI's Honda alkaline battery boasts the lowest self-discharge.  Generally, the self-discharge rate of a cell is in the inverse proportion to its internal resistance.  The charge retention of the MTI's Honda alkaline battery, after 6 months at 25°C is 82% with the long-rate type (HDS), 77% with the medium rate type (HDM), and 63% even with the very high rate type (HDV) and the high rate type (HDH).  Left unattended for a long time, the lead acid battery suffers an irrecoverable capacity loss while the alkaline battery can be stored without capacity loss for a very long period of time.

Light Weight and Compact Size

The MTI's Honda alkaline battery is far superior in high rate discharge capacity to the lead acid battery.  When used for diesel engine starting duty, for example, the MTI's Honda Alkaline battery can do the job with half the nominal ampere-hour capacity required of the lead acid battery.  This means less weight and compact size for the alkaline battery

No Corrosive Gases

In the lead acid battery, sulfuric acid participates in charging and discharging of the battery, generating corrosive fumes to corrode nearby electrical wiring and equipment. These fumes further deposit on the battery and other equipment nearby, thus making occasional cleaning necessary to prevent corrosion.

The MTI's Honda alkaline battery does not generate corrosive fumes, and can be installed near delicate electrical equipment. The MTI's Honda battery can be safely installed together with a rectifier and other electrical devices, in a compact cabinet such as stand-by DC power supply equipment.
